Race Timing Systems

EDCS developed the first computer based horse race timing system for Playfair race course in Spokane Washington in 1981. This marked the first time in history that a PC had ever been used for racetrack timing. Soon race tracks from all over the world were seeking EDCS products and consulting services.

Prior to our development of custom hardware and software that allowed personal computers to be used for race timing, timers were not very flexibale and did not have advanced features. They were also very expensive and most suppliers did not want to sell them, instead charging a daily rental fee. EDCS revolutionized the industry by providing an inexpensive and reliable product that could be maintained by race track personnel.

To further reduce costs EDCS also developed the first serial tote system interfaces. First with United Tote (for Playfair), then with Amtote and Autotote. By utilizing modern tote board matrix displays race tracks could choose to save tens of thusands of dollars over stand alone displays.

Today our timers have evolved even further utilizing embedded industrial controllers and high resolution graphic displays.
